About Us

The short story of a mug shop named after the place where every mug begins.

1. What Kilnmere sells

You know that one mug. The one that gets grabbed first every morning, even though the cupboard holds a dozen others. Kilnmere exists to make that mug — a white ceramic mug with an illustration printed all the way around the body, in two sizes: 11oz for a standard pour and 15oz for people who consider a standard pour a warm-up.

That’s the whole catalog. No candles, no coasters, no seventeen product lines. Mugs, done carefully.

2. Why the name

Every mug on this site began its life in a kiln. That part isn’t ours — we don’t fire ceramic, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Our part starts after: the artwork. Flat, friendly illustrations in colors borrowed from old glaze charts, drawn to wrap around a curved surface without looking stretched or squeezed. We named the store after the kiln as a nod to where the blank white mug comes from, and “mere” because most of these end up beside somebody’s morning window.

3. How a mug gets to you

When you place an order, your mug doesn’t exist yet. A print partner in the United States prints the design onto a blank white ceramic mug, checks it, boxes it, and hands it to USPS or UPS. Printing and packing takes 2-5 business days; door to door, most orders land in 5-10 business days. Printing to order means nothing sits in a warehouse going stale, and it means we can keep a wide range of designs without cutting corners on any of them.

4. What makes a design good enough to sell

Three questions, asked in this order. Does it still read clearly from across the kitchen? Does it survive daily life — the artwork has to sit on a mug that handles the dishwasher and the microwave, not a shelf ornament? And would you give it to someone you like, not just someone you know? A design that fails any of the three gets redrawn or retired.

5. If something goes wrong

Mugs are ceramic, and carriers are carriers. If yours arrives chipped, cracked, or with the wrong design, email a photo to ⟨EMAIL — SET BEFORE GO-LIVE⟩ within 3 business days of delivery and a replacement goes into production — you don’t pay for it, and you don’t have to mail the broken one anywhere. The full details live in our Return & Refund Policy, but the short version is: a broken mug is our problem, not yours.
